Traffic infrastructure development at the border of the EU in the framework of a Hungarian-Romanian mirror project

Acceleration and multiplication of traffic and public road transport results ina considerable quality deterioration in the state of repair of roads. Since ourcountry joined the EU as a member with full powers, this issue has becomenearly pivotal. Road maintenance and renovation as well as the construction of newtracks have become requirements not only in transport in Hungary, but in terms ofinternational transit traffic and public road cargo transport as well. Accordingly, theproject aimed to develop transport in the cross-border area. Project funding was usedto implement the interconnection road sections leading to the border crossing pointsof Elek–Graniceri, Dombegyház–Variasu–Mic, and Lőkösháza–Curtici, respectively; tofully prepare the reconstruction of the 0.0-66.7 km section of road 4434 connectingthem; and to prepare the necessary studies.
