Towards cultural interaction by using ICT-methods
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Jul 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our aim is to share our school's everyday life with other pupils and teachers of the same grades by using ICT-methods and attending courses and by job shadowing. By doing this we can increase the intercultural tolerance, knowledge and understanding. We can learn to appreciate our own culture and country better by acknowledging and accepting different features of other countries. Our school is called Laukaa Kirkonkylä primary school. We have approximately 600 pupils and 66 members of school staff. With this Erasmus+ -project we are interested in intercultural communication and everyday life in foreign schools. Eleven of our teachers will participate in KA1 mobility project (seven of them by attending courses and four by job shadowing). Amongst these people we have classroom teachers, subject teachers, English teachers and a special education teacher. Participating teachers are of different ages and years of work experience. The courses (in Ireland, Spain and Greece) our teachers plan to attend to, aim to improve the teachers' ICT-skills, the knowledge of cultural heritage and the usage of CLIL-methods in language teaching. We hope to get to know the ordinary day of a pupil and a teacher by school visits and job shadowing. We are interested in comparing the local curriculum, subjects being studied and the used teaching methods with our own ones. We wish to observe the lessons for example in Handicrafts, English, History and Music. We hope to concentrate on the cultural heritage on celebrating festivals and traditional influences in teaching Handicrafts. We hope to find answers to the historical connections and cultural issues in the ways of teaching by asking the following questions. How the cultural differences can be seen in teaching and in subject contents? What similarities and differences can be found in teaching methods? Where do the habits and traditions in teaching arise from?We will create open blogs as an outcome of all that we have experienced by attending the courses and job shadowing. We will organise projects for our pupils with our co-operative schools by using the eTwinning-service. Even now we have ongoing projects with foreign schools. We post pictures and videos to each other and practise using English by writing a blog, e-mails and using padlet and chatrooms. We wish to expand these beginning co-operations by possibly visiting the schools and having them visit our school. We have already agreed on a visit with a Belgian school called Bassisschool Sintantonius. We can also present the outcome of this Erasmus+ -project to the staff in our own school and in other Laukaa schools in different occasions and staff meetings. We are ready give short courses to the staff in small groups and share what we have learned.
