Our school has a fruitful cooperation with the Danish health care vocational school from Nykobing since 2002, with our French partner since 2011 and with the enormous vocational school, Tavastia Vocational College, from Hämeenlinna, Southern Finland since 2005. Their educational system is similar to ours and it guarantees the proper workplaces, they are helpful and open to Erasmus+ program. They guide the students’ practice, the trainers’ experience; they also ensure the accommodation and help with the free time activities and administration.
Our school is a medical care and light industrial vocational school. We have nursing, infant and child care nursing classes and clothing manager or fashion designer trainings. In these fields the ratio of vocational practice is high (40-60%) so the four week long foreign vocational training is useful.
Students from grade 13.and 14. can apply for this scholarship. These students have a basic knowledge of English and acquired the basis of the professional language. They are able to work alone under supervision. The teachers and the students were selected by a committee after submitting an application. 11 students and 4 teachers could participate altogether. Language, mental and cultural preparation lessons were held for the students and only language courses for the teachers . The students travelled with an accompanying teacher who helped them with the travelling and in the first days. She helped to occupy the accommodation, to start their training and in some organisation tasks. The students had to document everything they did and they had to make a masterpiece, which was displayed after arriving home. They had to write a report, too. On 8th June we organized a closing programme, where the participant people had presentations about their studies, and experienced during the practice abroad. We invited our partners, and vocational students from our school for this presentation. The presentations appeared on our homepage, and we had an exibition.
In this programme 4 students travelled to Denmark , 4 to Finland and 3 to France. During the first few days, they took part in theoretical lessons or practice in the school. In Denmark then they studied the nursing habits and went to work in home care. They took part in everyday routine(higyene, getting dressed, feeding, moving, blood pressure etc)and in special teratments( stoma, diabetes, demencia). In Bretagne the students spent 4 weeks in nursery, which is different from our system. So they were among children from the age of 2 to 6. They took part in everyday routine too, and lessons(drawing, dancing, singing, playing). The 4 clothing manager students spent their training in the modern, well-equipped workplaces of the Finnish vocational college. The subject of their practice was: Traditional accessories – hats, caps, bags, gloves, scarves – role in the life of young people.
They finished their working program successfully, which is connected with their curriculum and it is counted into their final marks. In France the students could spend their whole practice in nursery, which was different to the original plan.Because of the French administration they could not go to children surgery, but it was no problem it didn’t influence the practice plan.
The vet staff during their 1 week, or 10 day long studies had a closer look to the vocational programs of the partner institutions, had professional meeting with their colleagues. They took part in lessons, where they could study new methods of teaching(first aid, rehabilitation or designing, new stiles, motives ). In Denmark they visited the workplaces and institutions, where the students spent their 4 week long training. They studied a lot, got new methods of teaching. It was a great opportunity for them to strenghten, to avoid the teachers' burning out, practiced English.
The main aim of our vocational training is to realize the students’ training in the highest level in order to harmonize the training and the demand of the labour market. Our main aim is to help our students to find a workplace easily, because their knowledge got modern, they are strong-minded, they are able to use modern devices, techniques. It was good to realize, that the students became self confident, their communication , empathy developed, studied another culture, got new friends. Our students can use their new knowledge at home, too. Especially, their attitude had changed a lot.Working among old, sick people their emphasy developed. Dealing with small children, our students became more patient, creative in special situation. We are sure, that with their professional knowledge and higher language skills they have lots of opportunities within Hungary or in any other countries of the European Union. They received Europass Mobility Certification, which also helps them to find a job.
