Time Machine: Discover the Past, Imagine the Future is an exchange partnership project between the Jack Kane Community Centre, in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom and Finis Terrae, in Italy. The project has been initiated by young people, and targets young people aged 15-21years of age. In total there are 16 young people involved in this project, (8 males and 8 females) and they all live within an area affected by multiple deprivation and as a result have economic barriers to participation. This is all the young people's first experience of an exchange project. The key needs and issues that this project will address are; youth unemployment (locally and globally), youth aspirations and opportunities for the future within the European community, youth participation and European citizenship. The objectives of the project are as follows: 1. To provide socially excluded young people from both groups the opportunity to participate in an intercultural exchange 2. To develop young people’s awareness in relation to living within an European context. 3. To use the issue of youth employment as an educational tool for young people to challenge stereotypes, raise European awareness and promote equal opportunities. 4. To promote European awareness in relation to issues that affect young people by encouraging young people to think critically about their environment by relating the micro to the macro. 5. To develop a range of skills with young people such as communication and organisational skills as well as to gain competences in a foreign language. 6. To provide an opportunity for young people to experience difference and discover similarities. 7. To support young people to gain wider recognition through Saltire Youth and Youth Pass Activities and methodologies hat will be utilised to achieve the project objectives will include, Group work Workshops Experiential learning Critical thinking, reflection and action Discussion Art Drama Team building Ice breakers/excercises The results and impact that this project will have are: On participants: Increase in confidence and self worth Increase in opportunities and aspirations Increase in communication and language skills Increase in awareness, and understanding of different cultures and diversity Increase in learning experiences Increase in accreditation and recognized learning which may support applications for further education and/or employment On the wider community/local/national level: IIncreased understanding of the issues faced by young people Raised profile of young people's aspirations and dreams for the future Increased knowledge of living within a European community and European citizenship Increased knowledge of the Erasmus+ programme Action plan devised by young people and taken forward with support on a national and local level The potential long term benefits of the project will be: More young people in a positive destination (employment and/or further eduction) More marginalised and excluded young people participating within Erasmus+ programmes
