This was an individual EVS project in a special riding school for disabled people in the North East of Italy. One Romanian volunteer worked with us for 12 months, helping on daily activities of therapeutic riding, hippo and pet therapy, alongside with the staff, including specialized professionals and marginalized people. The activities vary: the volunteers (not only the European, but the local ones as well) helped in preparing the horses, cleaning them and their stables, preparing the setting for vaulting classes and hippo and pet therapies, participating in the equipe meetings (this reserved to the European volunteer). All the mentioned activities were carried out either alone, with other volunteers or with the users, as an important part of the therapeutic experience. "Anche noi a cavallo" offered the volunteer an important experience of personal development through close contact with animals working with disabled and marginalized adults and children. She gained insight into the world of disability and its difficulties, and saw the important impact of our activities on the daily life of disadvantaged people in a natural surrounding. The staff at the riding school has interacted continuously with the volunteer, accompanying her in her experience of informal learning in an atmosphere of mutual cooperation. Our helpful companions, horses and other pet-partners, always added something special to our activity: for them all people are equal and there are no different nationalities, cultures or abilities.
