Theatre for all - dealing with topics of our time.
Theatre for all - dealing with topics of our time.
Start date: May 1, 2012,
Our time is full of daily changes, be it the European financial crisis, environmental desasters or masses of protesters demonstrating for their rights.Changes bring along conflict potential and most of the people cannot understand what happens around them or they interpret things negatively. This is the reason why we want to bring together young people from all over Europe in order to deal in a creative way with current themes of our time.Augusto Boal developed with theatre of the oppressed a mean to solve conflicts and illustrate difficult issues. "Theatre for all - dealing with topics of our time" is a youth exchange in the Austrian village of Riedau from 21st to 28th of July 2012. From Spain, Estonia, Romania and Austria 24 young people will come together to learn theatre technics in order to increase their emotional understanding, to equip them with a tool to solve conflicts and to deal with following predefined topics: democracy, environment and health and lifestyle. The youth exchange basically consists of two parts: - Theatre for all:Theatre is for everyone. With the technics of Augusto Boal, the so called theatre of the oppressed, we equip the participants with a tool to solve conflicts and increase their emotional understanding. Augusto Boal stated: "Everyone can play theatre". His theatre methods are therefore easy to take up and show great effect beginning from the first time of using them.- Dealing with topics of our time:Having a proper tool we work together on immediate topics of our time. The theatre technics enable us to point out pressing problems, analyse the situation and understand and interprete them in a positive way.In the first part of the youth exchange we focus on intercultural learning and getting familiar with the basics of the theatre technics of Augusto Boal. We have therefore foreseen a cultural day in the mountainous region, an intercultural night and also very important the exchange between the participants and their host families where they will stay during the exchange. The workshops held by our expert will consist of some theory, exercises and examples.Secondly, as soon as we know each other better we will start to build groups and work out theatre plays on predefined topics which will be environmental issues, health/lifestyle and democracy. Finally we will hold a public event in which we will perform our theatre plays in the “natural amphitheatre” of our village. Important to mention is that the audience (locals) is going to take an active role in the play.By this youth exchange we want to bring Europe a little bit closer together and establish intercultural and international long lasting friendships between the participants, we want to provide the youth with a new creative tool which they can use in their communities to illustrate difficult topics and solve conflicts and we would like to open up locals and give them a perspective to see relevant themes in a positive way.
