Theatre against Barriers
Start date: May 16, 2015, End date: May 15, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

"Theatre against barriers" was a European youth exchange that took place in the village Dolni Vestonice. The Exchange started on August 3rd and finished on August 11th 2015. There were 32 young people from seven countries such as France, Poland, Romania, Spain, Italy, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. The main topic of the whole youth exchange and all workshops was theatre. Theatre is an issue that breaks differences between people of different race, culture, religion or country itself. It connects people thanks to the art experience that is common for the whole group. During several workshops young people have learnt theatre techniques, theatre language. This knowledge they were able to use for their own art expression. Young people gained ideas and experiences also from area around. They visited 2nd biggest city in the Czech Republic – Brno. They also visited pantomimic shows of the theatre Facka (slap in English). These interactions were visible during the whole week and it enriched them a lot. Young people participated on various workshops focused on the technique and methods of theatre expression. Participants got basics of the theatre expression, they had a pantomimic workshop, workshop about improvisation, work with and without partner and also a puppet theatre workshop that was co-leaded by young participants from Bulgaria who study puppet theatre in Sofia. All workshops had 2 parts. The first one was learning a technique (through various exercises) and the second one was a using this technique to their own art expression. They got a theme they had to process and use their new abilities. All workshops formed their cultural identity and learnt them a lot about theatrical culture in Europe. Participants shared their cultural sight of the life. They also shared their experiences and interests among each other. Before the project itself they used a research about local theatre tradition and history. They also brought presentation about their country, traditional food and drinks. Participants created a short theatre show as a final product of the youth exchange. They were rehearsing in smaller groups under the supervision of professional actors, directors and well-skilled non-professional actors. They prepared well-made shows with unique message that went through all countries, religion and cultural tradition. Each show expressed what they have learnt during the week and all shows were presented for public too. Therefore there was larger impact of the whole youth exchange. Young participants were also welcomed by local mayor. The project were visible in media such us “Týdeník Břeclavsko“ and „Břeclavský deník“. The project was presented online on our website Together network, on Facebook and also online in both magazines or website of the primary school in Dolni Vestonice.
