The aim of the VAEcoM project is to develop a transboundary living eco-museum, with a focus on the natural and cultural heritage of the Vjosa / Aoos river basin, including productive, environmental and socio-cultural aspects. This aim can be met by addressing a number of specific objectives; in particular:- Monitor the preservation, conservation and interpretation of natural and cultural heritage resources of Greece and Albania along the Vjosa / Aoos River, - Highlight the significance of consensus building as well as community participation, empowerment and involvement to reduce isolation and encourage mutual support, - Create a cross-border network of local stakeholders to enhance capacity and ensure the feasibility of the eco-museum after the completion of the project, - Develop the eco-museum guide with all relevant maps, routes and destinations, - Organise a series of capacity building workshops - Promote the cross border dimension of the project - Focus on integrated management approaches that seek to enhance local tangible and intangible heritage, whilst also aiding cross border sustainable development. Expected Results: The project will have a significantly positive impact on the eligible cross-border zone, with significant socio-cultural, economic and environmental implications. More specifically:(a) The project area, as interregional level one, for its natural and cultural values that attract a wide range of visitors from other regions is known; (b) The basis for the future cross border collaboration, conservation of natural and cultural heritage and development of alternative forms of tourism in the area is set up; (c) A local knowledge-base on ideas and practices regarding conservation and management of natural and cultural heritage is established; (d) Capitalise on the dynamism of the areas new identity in order for the local communities to lobby for additional projects and improvement of accessibility is performed; (e) Bringing together Albanian and Greek local communities on cross-border cultural exchanges and build capacities on their common features and practices is carry out; (f) Multiplier effect of tourism development through economic activities (commercial, recreation, productive) that will complement tourism development is fulfilled;(g) Synergies between entrepreneurs from the Greek and the Albanian communities, based on the transfer of know-how, is strengthened; (h) Awareness of the region's environmental and cultural values is raised; and (i) Harmonizing relationship between human activities and nature and improvement of the local communities' quality of life is carry out.
