The Museum of Cultural History of Latgale, Kedainiai Regional Museum, M. Bogdanovich Grodno museum have accumulated a rich local cultural and historical heritage of the region. However, it is necessary to attribute a cross-border significance and availability to this heritage since these regions are united by a common history (the period of the Great Duchy of Lithuania in the 12th–15th centuries, Rzeczpospolita in the 16th–18th c., Vitebsk Guberniya in the 16th–20th c.) and similar manifestations of traditional culture. Nowadays when the newest technologies make their appearance both in everyday life and in the environment of museums, education and research, new possibilities open up for new interactive offers for using of the accumulated heritage relating to the history of civilization and for popularizing it for various target audiences, in particular, for the younger generation. The creation of the virtual museum would allow: 1) to attract the younger generation for acquiring the heritage relating to the history of civilization by arousing interest in a museum as a modern and diverse institution, developing strong features of the regional identity; 2) to update operatively and to change virtually the available information in the permanent exhibitions, 3) to make available the common heritage relating to the history of Grodno, Rēzekne, Kedainiai by applying an innovative point of view: showing a concept (a cultural object). Project aims to provide availability to the values of the material and nonmaterial cultural heritage for wide circles of the public, developing the virtual museum and extending exchange of the museum and cross-border experience in the sphere of cultural education. To set up the virtual museum attracting a greater number of the visitors of the museum and changing the notion on the typical visitor of the museum, showing cultural and historical links among 3 of the neighbouring countries and regions - Grodno, Rēzekne, Kedainiai. Achievements: 1) Possibility of preserving of modernised museum holdings and its increased availability for the public;2) Improved cooperation in the spheres of research and education, and providing communication in the regions involved in cultural education;3) The number of persons visiting a museum has been increased in each of the museums involved, in particular, the number of the young people; 4) An innovative, cultural and educational tourism product has been created – the interactive virtual museum is available publicly;5) The possibility for students and researchers to use data bases for the research needs; 6) The possibilities of museum internship and cultural education in the involved territories.
