Start date: Dec 1, 2010,

The objective of this project is to get youth to the heart of the post-MDG, Post-Rio+20 sustainable development agenda to combat poverty and social exclusion. Its theme focuses on how to ensure the effective participation of young people and the creation of youth leaders to achieve that goal and celebrate EU-China Youth Year by finding out points where our paths to sustainable development cross. The activities will be a series of information and awareness-raising efforts touching millions of young people in schools, colleges, Youth associations and non-formal learning groups to alert them to the opportunity offered by Rio+20 and the preparation of the post-MDG development agenda; there will be 5 international meetings: in Africa(Accra, Ghana), Latin America(Cordoba, Argentina), Asia(Beijing, China), Europe(Tallinn, Estonia) and North America (UN, New York) - to develop a comprehensive policy paperto go forward to the Rio+20 Summit and be used as a lobbying tool by youth activists around the world. The outputs will include:1. A Road to Rio+20 Website: www.roadtorio+20.orq with training toolkits explaining Sustainable Development2. The Rio+20 Youth Policy Statement3. A 6-part series of youth-created books on different aspects of Sustainable Development - and -4. A version of the Peace Child Musical that celebrates how today's youth achieve a sustainable world by 2050.The dissemination strategy is mainly web-based using social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter + partners' websites. The musical play is another dissemination device, as are the promotional channels of UN, government and NGO development agencies, commercial promotions by the book publisher and seminars / information sessions run by partner agencies. The impact on the millions of youth touched by this project will be to raise their awareness of sustainability issues - and to give them HOPE that solutions can be found. The impact on governments and Inter¬governmental agencies like the UN, DG DEV and others, will be to recognise the extraordinary potential of young people to work together across cultures,(including those of N. America and China) - to deliver sustainable development gains - and prove to them that youth merit a place at the heart of their development policies.
