The radicalization of young people
Start date: Jan 20, 2016, End date: Jun 19, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Radicalization is a big problem for young people and it is unfortunately a reality that there is an increased tendency among young people to join different kinds of radicalized environments. Some of the factors such as lack of integration, lack of social support, lack of social control, lack of education and lack of social interaction with other people are often considered as being the main causes of radicalization among youngsters. Some of the main objectives carried by Félag Horizon is to support young people both socially and academically in which the idea of having a social interaction and creating a social bond with other people play a major role to strenghten this idea. It is important to introduce and teach the young people about radicalization in general, so to talk about the implications and consequences, which is brought by the idea of radicalization. In this context the members of Félag Horizon find it relevant to teach the young people about the importance of having a positive interaction and a strong bond with other people in the society despite race, colour or religion and how to choose the right path of friends and enviroments. One of the main issues of this project is to emphasize the necessity of having a good education to build up a bright and safe future both for oneself but also by being a productive citizen of the society. In this aspect things like "how to avoid radicalization" or "the methods of avoiding radicalized environments" will be included and the young people will learn about the meaning of being a role model for younger generations by choosing the educational path of life. The participants of this project consist of 30 students and members from Vesterborg Efterskole, Anatolien Kultur og Sprogcenter and Kultur broen with 10 members from Félag Horizon. The participants will go through activities like workshops, seminars, group work, debates and what we call "get to know Iceland", in which the students are travelling around in Reykjavik and outside Reykjavik while learning about the structure of the society and the essence of living together in one society as a whole. All the participants of this project are people, both from Iceland and Denmark, with other ethnic backgrounds; either born in those countries or have been living in those countries in many years. We believe that this project will give the young people a chance of seeing the structure of the society from new angels. Since a part of the students already come from socially deprived environments it is important to give the ability of seeing the society from another perspectives and to strenghten their ties to the Scaninavian culture and the solidarity of the society as a whole. When these young people meet with other people through workshops and group works, they will be able to get in a positive social interaction with other people. EU should fund this project as it gives the ability and the opportunity to the young people to learn about the society and to learn about the Scaninavian culture, which they normally do not have the access to do in their daily life. Therefore integration is one of the main processes that we want the young people to go through and thereby to build up their Scandinavian and their European identity, which also links to the objectives of the Ersamus+ programmes.
