THE POWER OF CITRUS is a youth exchange targeted at individuals aged 18-30 years old representing Greece, Italy, Turkey and Spain. These selected countries have long histories of citrus cultivation in their territories. Our partner organizations are all dedicated to European values and youth education on different levels. It crucial to educate our youth about their heritage in all its shapes and forms. During the 5 day intensive programme 20 young people will take part in seminars, discussions, fields trips. They will reflect on their countries' experience in citrus cultivation starting in the past and concluding with the future of the citrus production in the Mediterranean. Through non formal methods of learning they will gain a good understanding of the topic. We will bring in experts who will share their knowledge and experiences regarding the theme of the exchange. The participating states have long standing historical connection with citrus cultivation and the production of citrus has shaped their natural, cultural and historical heritage. Citrus fruit are an inherent part of these countries' economies and a pillar of agriculture. Sales and exports are vital parts of their economies. In part the project aims at starting an intellectual exchange of good agricultural practices, assessment of hazards and potential for future cooperation. Young people will have a unique opportunity to communicate with experts and peers interested in the subject. The project will engage participants in a discussion about growing citrus in the province of Granada and in their home states. The partnership will involve three experts during the exchange will work closely with participants and educate them about relevant issues related to the project topic.
Throughout the programme the following themes will be given priority:
-Respect for the shared cultural and natural heritage of the Mediterranean;
-Inter-cultural dialogue an common European values and traditions;
-Environment protection and sustainability;
-Culture for active citizenship;
-Diversity and multiculturalism
The participation in the project will result in:

-enhanced inter-cultural awareness;
-more active participation in society;
-better awareness of the European project and the EU values
-increased motivation for taking part in future (formal/non-formal) education or training after the mobility period abroad
We want to engage young people in collecting data on citrus cultivation in one chosen municipality of the Granada province. We want them to create a documentation of their findings which will later be published and distributed via a local tourism agency adjacent to the municipal government. It will be made available in an electronic version on-line. People interested in learning more about the citrus cultivation in the area will get a good reading material encouraging them to explore the topic more on their own. The publication will available in all of the participants´ languages. We hope to involve the local farmers whose livelihood depends on citrus cultivation. We want the participants to collect their stories and shared experiences by carrying out field interviews. We want the local community feel that their contribution to youth education goes beyond Spain and is spread in other Mediterranean countries.
