The project will develop and produce a high-quality course about the process of the European Union integration starting with post-war period (from 1948 onward) for senior students at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). The course will be taught in English and consist of 25 annual lectures, discussion modules, 3 annual conferences and 3-5 publications on the theme of the European integration.The main target group of the project are students with advanced level of English studying for their B.A. or M.A. degree and young professionals who are interested in enhancing their knowledge of European studies, developing an analytical perspective on contemporary European affairs. The course will aim to provide a thorough analysis of the European integration history, evolution of key economic and political institutions, initial integration ideas and plans as envisioned and developed by its founding fathers- Jean Monnet and Robert Schuman.The students and course participants will be engaged in a comprehensive study of factors behind the integration efforts, challenges and opportunities, ‘spill-over’ effects and process in key policy areas, starting from the European Coal and Steel Community and expanding to the European Economic Community, monetary union, common foreign, security and humanitarian policy. The project will feature annual international conferences that will bring together leading European studies professors from a number of reputable Universities and think tanks such as Central European University, European Studies programme at SAIS, the Johns Hopkins University, the Center for European Policy Studies, Carnegie Europe, etc. Each annual conferene will be followed up by publications in both English and Russian for dissemination among young researchers, students, journalists and the general public.The project will also enable to bring European and international experts to MIPT to give lectures on various aspects of the European integration.
