The Edible Garden (Phase 2)
Start date: Jan 7, 2013,
A team of young people not in employment, education or training (NEET) is delivering the Edible Garden (Phase 2) in order to develop their skills as community leaders. The Edible Garden (Phase 2) will take place between January and September 2013. The two main young leaders will work with a further 4 young Muslim girls making the leading team a total of 6 young people. They will then work closely with artists, chefs and gardeners at the Growing Zone - Mile End Children's Park delivering sessions to the whole community focusing on inter-generational interactions. Thus enabling people of different ages and cultures to contribute to the development of the project and, through gardening, cooking and arts sessions, build a more cohesive community. The project will culminate in a performed feast with / for the community. As well as families and local groups, the project also aim to involve local primary and secondary schools. The project also aims to engage with similar initiatives, other young people and organisations at European level via social media and the internet to further develop young people's sense of European citizenship. At the end of the project, a digital book will be published containing "recipes for life".
