The project "The Cinema Around" will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria. Оur project has a goal to raise the awareness for the role of cinema as a medium in society that serves as channel for communication, provokes public and private debates and sensibility towards social problems. The duration of the project is three months. Four groups from four countries: Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and Azerbaijan will participate in the project. The total number of participants is 20 - four groups of four participants each plus a group leader. The main activity is an exchange in Sofia between the 10th and 17th of April 2015. The exchange includes introduction to the themes in modern European cinema, talks and discussions about the role of cinema in society. The participants from each country will conduct presentations and screenings of a film from their home country. After the screenings with the help of a tutor the participants will discuss the ways, in which different social problems are brought to the screen, how they reach the viewer, the variety of artistic techniques, the cultural differences in cinematic languages and reactions in society. To reach its goals the project will use informal methods of education (workshops, role games, brainstorming, forum theater, etc.). By reaching the goals of the project we expect the participants to achieve a higher sensibility towards cinema and the ways it reflects social issues, to acquire skills to discuss films and the problems presented in them in a profound way and at the same time in an easy to understand language. We think that the active multicultural cooperation, the sharing and analysis of different social issues and the enhanced ability of the participants for artistic expression will represent long-term benefits of the project. We also expect that the participants will benefit from the development of their transferable and soft skills, which, will further their job prospects.
