Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Framework The growing number of economic and social challenges emerging at the dawn of the 21st century on a local and an international level call for action by the educational institutions. Our school, as an agent of innovation, is aiming at contributing towards the formation of a cohesive society with active and productive citizens, by promoting a plan regarding the development of the 21st century skills, namely cooperation, communication, critical thinking and creativity (4C) so as to foster personal growth and improve the future employment prospects of our students. To achieve our goal, our educators need to be supported in order to develop professionally by enriching their knowledge and competences regarding the topic of soft skills integration and by familiarizing themselves with the culture and educational systems of other European countries. We thus need to have support and transfer of know-how and experiences in the form of training provided as a structured course and teaching assignment in another European school, which is highly experienced in this field. Moreover we need to form a group of teachers with the necessary competences and positive attitudes so as to create a working team available for a KA2 strategic partnership and etwinning projects in the near future. ObjectivesOur goal is twofold: A) To improve the quality of our educational practices, innovating in the field of teaching methodology by producing and implementing our own learning senarios, involving different disciplines such as English, Maths and ancient Greek, placing emphasis on the 21st century skills development and collaborating with other European educators. B) To promote the intercultural and European dimension in education by bringing together professionals from different countries and different subjects so that there is a flow of ideas and methodological approaches.Number and profile of the teachers6 teachers will be involved in our school, chosen on the grounds of• Desire to work hard and commitment in lifelong learning and professional growth• Spanning over a range of different disciplines in accordance with the key competences specified by the European Commission (communication in the mother tongue, in foreign languages, mathematical competence, social and civic competences, cultural awareness and expression)• Mastery of a foreign language to a satisfactory degree• Ability to integrate new technologies in the educational process• Experience in designing and implementing innovative project-based senariosDescription of main activities and methodology We are developing a two-year plan which comprises the following steps: a) initial needs analysis of the students and teachers with reference to the incorporation of the 21st century skills and experiential activities such as Think‐Pair‐Share; Reciprocal Teaching; Think‐Aloud Pair Problem Solving (TAPPS) in our syllabus, 2) peer observation sessions-open classrooms 3) teacher training and job shadowing/teaching assignment 3) co-teaching 4) material production in the form of senarios using open educational resources. All six participants will receive training on the topic of skills development in three mutually complementary structured courses run by an experienced course provider (http://mlfe.info/) so as to gain an in depth insight into the theme and act as catalysts of change in their school. Three of them, having acquired the necessary knowledge and being capable of cooperating with peers from a different cultural context due to their competence in language use and ICT skills, will undertake teaching assignment in the highly experienced in skills development French school.Expected results and Impact• Empowering the teachers by receiving knowledge and developing skills through formal and informal learning settings so as to become 21st century teaching practitioners • Delving into the topic of developing our pupils’ competences across a variety of subjects and skills by getting inspiration from schools across Europe and producing our own original senarios and teaching materials to be shared and evaluated by the wider teaching community through etwinning• Opening up to new challenges and opportunities that potential strategic partnerships can yield in the near future due to the expansion of our professional and personal learning network.• Most of all, forming active and productive citizens of the new millennium, by fostering creativity, critical thinking, cooperation and communication in our everyday teaching and learning interaction, with a view to a cohesive and tolerant Greek and European society of the future.
