PROJECT
FINISHED
The project grew out of the intention of the teachers from 1st Technical School Tesla to make some improvements towards a European school, to tackle learning outcomes particularly in relation to vocational practice. Their aim was actually to be able to adapt their curricula to European ones, and to achieve better cooperation with European schools. Croatian national framework (HKO) still does not have the learning outcomes for our vocational programs set (vocational school for electrical and mechanical engineering).
The project objectives were:
1st: to realize all planned mobility and perform vocational practice in the prescribed manner in accordance with the new Law on Secondary Education;
2nd: to evaluate students' knowledge and skills before going on to mobility so that after his return the level of implementation of learning outcomes in relation to the profession, language and inter-cultural could be described;
3rd: to make recommendations on activities and next steps for the school's progress towards integration of professional practice in the Croatian system of vocational education (in cooperation with other Croatian teachers, ECVET experts, AMEUP, ASO);
4th: to establish a consistent approach to evaluate the student's on-the-job-training abroad, for now as a "Recommendation", and then at the level of the ECVET and EQF, in order to establish permanent cooperation with the schools from the project, to sign the MOU with them and to develop other forms of cooperation.
Thus, 82 of our students performed thoroughly all parts of the project according to the principle of before-during-after which means performing on-the-job-training, acquiring new levels in relation to the three sets of learning outcomes: vocational, language and intercultural.
The first two were formulated in accordance with levels of HKO, adapted to the EQF.
This project was one of the components of this approach, and accompanied teachers were present in the project preparation and implementation of each phase of the project, as well as assistance and support to students in touch with the new environment, but the accompanying teacher was in the host school also to learn about all levels and aims of ECVET.
So we created a team of Tesla's teachers and we defined new curricula with the help of our contact persons already mentioned in this project (all of them respectively ECVET experts) as well as with the help of national ECVET team.
In our opinion this is a way to determine in the future even national ECVET points for our students.
Our results are available to all Croatian vocational schools in the same field of vocational education.
We prepared individualized plans for performing professional practice for each student in each group, and were guided by their knowledge gained from formal as well as informal lifelong learning. Each completed mobility had a double impact – on the students themselves but also on the whole school. Students attending vocational practice abroad had signed a contract with the school, Training agreement, and finally in the after-phase they now have all the certificates and the recommended Europass documents.
VET practice for electrical engineering technicians (general) was carried out in workshops and companies related to BKBP in Arnsberg and Finish Tampere. VET practice for power engineering was carried out in workshops and companies related to La Croix Rouge, and for ICT in Ljubljana, in the companies related to Slovenian Vegova..VET mobilities in electronics took place in both vocational schools in Prague, VET mobilities in mechanical engineering in Frankfurt.
This means that the students, according to their elective courses (elective school subjects), acquired the learning outcomes which extended their formal and informal knowledge allowing them to offer skills and knowledge gained through their education, upgraded and achieved at a partner school, to the labor market, which is exactly what makes them more competitive workers.
Tesla's team of teachers is applying a large number of mobility programs because we believe that, due to the high percentage of unemployed in the Croatian market, these mobilities wprovide more of our students with potential contacts in foreign countries, as some of them can mean a realistic chance of obtaining employment in the field - on the job market of some other European country.
The long-term goal of the school is to improve procedures and strategies in teaching, to formulate adequate learning outcomes which meet competencies required by the labor market in order to increase the competitiveness of our students and to those in the European labor market performed with equal opportunities as other European citizens.
Such a goal is set to contribute to the formation of students as responsible citizens in their work and their social and cultural life, and this project was a one of the milestones in achieving that goal.
