The textile and confection sector has been the first step of industrialization and played the key role in realization of the industrialization activities in many developing countries. The textile and confection sector has an important place in the development processes of the developing countries because of the manufacture structure requiring intense labor, the employment opportunities, the added value created in the manufacture process and export opportunities it provides.
Turkish Textile and Confection Sector ranks first in the employment, manufacture and export. That one sector has such a great share in the Turkish economy causes the developments in the sector to affect the entire economy. Therefore, the sustainability of competitiveness in this sector is of utmost importance. The sector, which is very important to the Turkish economy, must follow the technology era and improve the manufacture in accordance with the technology in order to improve and strengthen its current position. Thus, when it is considered that the export income of the textile and confection sector is 22.6% because of its constantly changing and evolving nature, there will always be a need for the qualified technical personnel that can carry out modern practices and follow the latest developments in the sector.
In Diyarbakır, where the necessary importance wasn't given to the textile and confection sector in the past, significant developments have been seen and investment plans have been made recently. The factories and enterprises serving in the textile and confection sector have been founded in our province. The start of the construction of Diyarbakır Textile Specialized Organized Industrial Zone, which will provide employment for about 7.500 people, in a 75-hectare area through the project of "Tekstilkent (Textilecity)" will create a major employment source in the textile and confection sector in a few years.
Therefore, our students studying in the departments of Textile Technologies and Apparel Technologies have the adequate conditions to be employed. What they actually need is a training that can help them become the qualified technical personnel through professional specialization.
32 students studying in the department of Textile Technologies and Apparel Technologies in Diyarbakır Kayapınar Vali Gökhan Aydıner Vocational and Technical Anatolian School will participate in a training program on Pattern Making Techniques in the enterprises, which have productivity activities at high standards and employ qualified technical personnel, in Germany, Portugal and Romania. By this way, the participants will get professionally specialized and have the employment chance in the enterprises that will serve within the textile and confection investments in our province.
In addition, it is aimed that the participants will improve their foreign language skills, raise European awareness, develop tolerance against different cultures and social cohesion skills. The lives of our students with low income and limited social opportunities will change positively along with their employment and the career, salary and social rights following this and they can look forward to the future with hope.
The expected impacts of the project on the sector, institutions, participants and other target groups are the transfer of the innovative practices to our school and the enterprises, the improvement of the corporate capacity and education quality of our school, the establishment of sustainable partnerships, the self-esteem improvement of the participants thanks to their personal, professional and linguistic development and raising awareness of EU projects by other institutions.
The expected long-term benefits from the project are the contribution to meeting the qualified technical personnel need of the textile and confection sector, the creation of new and quality training environments and the development of the school-industry cooperation.
The methodology to be used during the execution of the project will be based on cooperation and the share of the tasks and responsibilities. All works and studies within the project will be shared and conducted cooperatively. Thus, all preparation, mobility, monitoring, evaluation and dissemination activities will be performed in a planned and quality way.
The project consists of 4 flows and a total of 32 participants will benefit from the project. The 2-week flows will be carried out “Gisi's Nähatelier” in Germany, “CAC CONFECOES” in Portugal, “SIDÓNIOS INTIMO” in Portugal and “SC CONFSTAR SA” in Romania respectively between 27th March 2016-10th April 2016. 8 participants and one accompanying teacher will be included in each flow.
