TECNO ZEINU - Editing of Multimedia Materials for Sign Language Training

The TECNO ZEINU project aims to improve professional training and develop specialised ICT training materials, aimed at deaf and hearing impaired persons, those working in support agencies and those interested in becoming Sign Language trainers.The project will undergo an initial analysis of existing training tools, materials and support services with findings influencing the design and introduction of electronic (internet and CD-Rom based) sign language learning materials.An electronic training package will be developed to include CD-Rom, video and a user support manual and will cover topics such as sign language fundamentals, comparative analysis of oral and sign language, visual discrimination, manual alphabet, grammatical aspects of sign language and body & facial language.Two further packages will be developed, to be presented through similar medium, but covering intermediate and higher subject areas, such as; development of visual perception, development of visual memory, development of narrative capacity in sign language, communication and comprehension abilities and interpretation of texts & development of concepts.A final project report, outlining the outcomes and achievements of the project, will be produced in all partner languages for output via the project website and in CD-Rom format. Further activity will be undergone by the partnership in seeking accreditation/validation of the developed training materials.Dissemination of project results is planned via a series of mailings across partner countries, to related public and private bodies, and through the release of articles to sectoral press and journals.
