PROJECT
FINISHED
The Second Chance School of Volos is a dynamic organization that strives consistently for many years to implement innovative actions and participate in various programs at a local, national and European level. All these years the school is stuffed, mainly, by young instructors, who are highly qualified and willing to experiment, explore and implement new teaching methods, approaches and ideas. This has given to the school a dynamic and innovative orientation. The instructors who will participate in the program constitute a very active core of the school with very good interpersonal and organizational skills, which will help in the diffusion of knowledge and the results of their training.
Since our school is part of the adult education our instructors are trained under its principles, yet they have little experience in the approach of the new lesson planning by using the new technologies. We observe that the colleagues are trying to integrate new technologies in the lesson planning that they apply in their lessons; however they find it rather difficult to implement them.
What we hope to achieve by this mobility are the following:
first of all in terms of knowledge we aim to increase our teacher’s awareness and creativity in the classroom. Also, after the completion of this training the participants will not only have gained the necessary knowledge of the subject of their training but they will be able to apply this knowledge to the training of adults.
Also in terms of skills we aim to increase our ability to use a range of ICT tools and new teaching methods and be able to apply them in school education and adult education.
Last but not least in terms of attitudes we aim at the development of intercultural awareness and cooperation between schools and organizations in the European Union.
The activities that will engage fellow teachers are:
Methodology
This course will be taught interactively, with input sessions, collaborative and group project work. Participants will be actively involved in all sessions input sessions will be in the form of hands‐on workshops and will involve brainstorming, analysis and at times problem ‐solving. Sessions will practically help participants set up tools such as Blogs, Wikis and apply online tools in a scaffolded setting. Participants will be asked to reflect on the tools & activities, inviting discussion with regard to their own knowledge & skills, their approach to teaching today’s students, and on adaptation of the use of the tools to their teaching & learning situations & contexts. Exchange of participants’ ICT and pedagogical knowledge will be encouraged through discussion
Participants’ own language skills will be developed and feedback given where appropriate. Participants will also be introduced to appropriate websites related to the further development of their teaching skills & personal professional development.
Follow Up
The course will end with an evaluation session, where teachers will be asked to reflect upon the value of the knowledge gained on the course and its usefulness to them. They will also be encouraged in this session to com e up with a Personal Development Action Plan, and select tools & activities which they would like to try out in their own classes or projects. They will be invited to join a dedicated online collaborative workspace set up for the benefit of the participants, a WIKI, in order to exchange ideas and
comment on their Plan and its implementation, or to upload their own activities, which can be shared. The site will allow networking and contact with the trainers and fellow colleagues, and with participants from other ETI (previous or post‐) courses. Teachers from different countries will be encouraged to set up their own EU class projects in conjunction with classes of other teachers on the courses. Participants will be encouraged to participate in current POOLS Projects both in Communicative Language Teaching Methods and Tools, and in ICT where possible.
