The Mediterranean Sea is nowadays a large migration flows area, surrounded by emigration, immigration and transit countries. In recent years southeast Mediterranean countries have experienced a significant transformation: from being historically countries of emigration they come to be both, emigration and immigration countries, and transit countries as well. Wars, dictatorships and civil conflicts continue to cause massive migratory movements involving all Europe and the Mediterranean countries. Wondering how to manage causes and consequences of forced migration through Mediterranean Sea and countries is a civil duty, and it becomes more and more compulsory in this historical period, in which Europe is facing an important economical crisis that may be a growth factor of racism and xenophobia. The partnership involved in this project benefits from training Euromed Spring Workshop, sponsored by SALTO in collaboration with the Italian and Finnish National Agencies in May 2014, and a great deal of experience in these fields gained from the 9 social organizations involved: 1 - Commissione Sinodale per la Diaconia (CSD - Diaconia Valdese) - Italy - C.O. 2 - Urban Prod - France 3 - Metsäkartano Youth Centre - Finland 4 - Genc Avrupalilar - Turkey 5 - Spirit Youth Centre - Jordan 6 - As-Samou Municipality - Palestine 7 - Chabibeh Sporting Club - Lebanon 8 - Euromed - EVE - Tunisia 9 - MRSZ Alapitvany Önkéntes Diakoniai Ev - Hungary The project involved: - 13 Youth Worker who participated in a training (5 of them were the Youth Leader of the exchange) - 36 young people including 30 people with fewer opportunities - 18:25 years of age - who participated at the exchange: asylum seekers / refugees from Italy and young people coming from difficult social, geographical or economical contexts (city suburbs, areas rural and mountainous; disadvantaged families) The project saw the construction of two main activities: A1 - TRAINING In March 2015 2 Youth Workers for each partner organization participated in a 4 days training dedicated to: team building, exchange of good practice and the networking between youth workers. This activity has been done in Torre Pellice, headquarter of Diaconia Valdese, where since 2011 the organization has enabled many hosting projects for Asylum Seekers and Refugees: the presence of asylum seekers, refugees and social worker involved in hosting projects has been an important added value to the realization of the training. All Youth worker have been wondering and finding solutions for creating new tools and skills for facing big topics like forced migrations and human rights within youth people. Moreover, all youth leader did a good reasoning activity on what, how and when to tell, to do and to imagine within youth people concerning forced migration, human rights and social inclusion; and this has been done by keeping in their mind a complete and international vision of this phenomenon. A2 - YOUTH EXCHANGE In May 2015, eight delegations with five youth (accompanied by a youth leader) from Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Tunisia, France, Finland, Hungary and Italy have met in Sicily to discuss and cooperate on themes like: human rights, borders, social inclusion, integration, tolerance and youth participation. The Palestinian partner renounced participation in the project after the approval. The objectives of this project were: - Raising awareness on the issues of Human Rights (A1 and A2) - Social inclusion / integration of young people with fewer opportunities (including its participation in the exchange of young refugees / asylum seekers hosted in Italy) (A2) - Raising awareness about migration issues (including through the dissemination activities of the results); (A1 and A2) - Realization of the basic conditions to enable pathways for cooperation and exchange between the countries involved in the project; (A1 and A2) - Sharing of tools and good practices both in terms of working with young people both in the field of forced migration and no; (A1) - The sharing and development of arts and working tools that can be useful for young people involved in the project (Video-theatrical skills) as well as soft skills related to non-formal intercultural, interreligious and socio-cultural knowledge. (A2) The methods used were not formal (role-playing games, ice breakers, ...) in order to achieve maximum involvement from all youth people, putting themselves in condition to be own creators and film-makers of dissemination and awareness-raising tools. All youth participants had the opportunity to expand their skills, knowledge and capacities in order to promote their future employability at European national and international level, including through knowledge and participation in other opportunities of the Erasmus + program. The project gave youth workers the opportunity to establish and consolidate new transnational operational partnerships and increase spendable skills in their daily work. The exchange days had been organized into general activities with the entire group and in specific activities for sub-groups. During general activities the group has been guided into forced migration, human rights and integration topics by using non formal activities like: role playing, discussions, studying of materials (videos, storytelling,...) and visiting italian realities of hosting projects for asylum seekers and refugees. During the afternoons the group 4 sub-groups in which youth leaders guided the activity for creating sensibilisation tools in 4 areas: - theatre: the youths involved created a show about the topic "forced migration" - video making: the youths involved created a video documentary by interviewing locals, asylum seekers and refugees with the aim of resuming what is going on in Italy and in Europe about integration and migration process - photos: the youth created an exhibition of photos representing the exchange and the focusing topics - flash mob: the youth invented a flash mob, used in the final event exhibition. All these results have been used by the exchange group to realize a final event in Vittoria, with the participation of local people, authorities and institutional actors.
