FINISHED
RGO is a secondary school, located "on Flakkee", which aims more and more at digitalising, internationalising and professionalising.
Digitalising because the school wants to incorporate the iPad:
- to connect to the way modern pupils obtain their knowledge
- to connect to increasing digitalising of society in general
- to prepare the pupils well for the higher groups (class four and higher) and the follow-up education
- to increase the number of pupils
- to modernise the education
Therefore it is most important that teachers learn how to work with the iPad, how to use the various apps and where to find them. This will increase their insight on the limitless possibilities tablets have to offer.
Internationalising because the school wants to prepare its pupils for a society that is becoming more and more international and multi-cultural and make them active, aware and involved participants of that society. The school feels that internationalisation is still in its infancy and therefore sees the courses as a great opportunity to expand its network for both virtual and physical exchanges. In the future the school would also like to apply for an Erasmus Plus KA2-grant. Possible partners can be met during the various courses.
Professionalising because the school wants to keep on improving the education that it offers. In order to remain one of the best scoring school in The Netherlands we would like to compare and contast the Finnish education system.
These are the most relevant topics addressed by our project:
- new innovative curricula/educational methods/development of training courses
- international cooperation, international relations, development cooperation
- quality improvement institutions ans/or methods (incl. school development)
The following courses will satisfy our needs in terms of innovation:
- Benchmarking: to compare and contrast the Finnish education system
• Participants: - math teacher, wants to focus on digital possibilities for teaching, various teaching methods and quality improvement of his subject; economics teacher/e-coach, wants to find out how Finnish colleagues incorporate tablets and wants to find partners to develop a new teaching method; German and geography teacher/HAVO manager, wants to focus on tailor-made teaching and develop a well-motivated policy plan for digitalisation; English teacher/coordinator internationalisation, wants to get in touch with foreign colleagues for her network and learn how Finnish school achieve such a high level of education
- Tap-Swipe-Pinch for English/music: to acquire iPad skills, both for teaching and using, and learning about specific apps designed for these subjects
• Participants: - music teacher/VWO manager, wants to learn about practical ways to incoporate the iPad in his music classes; 2 English teachers, want to learn about practical ways to incoporate the iPad in their English classes
- How to make your school more international: to develop a thorough policy on internationalisation
• Participant: French teacher/coordinator internationalisation, wants to get in touch with foreign colleagues for her network and develop a well-motivated policy plan for internationalisation
- European Studies Programme: for the development and evaluation of international projects
• Participants: English teacher and French teacher (both coordinators internationalisation)who want to work on and evaluate their international projects with their project partners and maintain/expand their international network
- CAVILAM Vichy: French immersion course to improve language and teaching skills
• Participant: French teacher, wants to improve her French language and teaching skills and learn about various ICT possibilities in French class
All these courses are known for their good methodology and modern, up-to-date and sophisticated approach. The trainers have years of experience and expertise. Besides training the participants, they will monitor the participants' progress and projects.
We expect to make a huge leap with regard to innovation and internationalisation. Furthermore we will have expanded our international network which will make it possible to design and carry out future virtual projects and/or physical exchanges. Our school will deliver more internationally orientated pupils, because they have received high-standard education, taught by well-trained professionals who possess the skills the 21st century requires.
