During the study visit that will last one complete week we will focus on the effective approaches used in England and particularly at Hackney Community College in London. The participants will learn in detail about the restorative justice approaches that are applied and the prevention programme called ‘students and suicide’. Further, the support programme for learners with mental health issues will be discussed, as well as E-safety approaches to managing learners being safe online and approaches in the UK to preventing violent extremism (far right, far left, and religious groups). Between each topic participants will discuss the relevance of the topic for their own organisation and how to implement the issues that were discussed. Special attention will be given to sessions on safeguarding, sexual orientation and bullying, the role of tutoring in supporting learners, preventing violent extremism, mental health and additional support for learners with disabilities and learning difficulties. Meetings with the School Management, School Counsellors, School Nurse, Health Care Team, Special Education Needs teachers and Coordinator as well as students will be part of the programme. We organised 2 study visits to the UK conform the application. In addition we were able to organise another study visit to Finland. All three study visits have achieved the goals. General aims of the Dutch Alliance we like to mention: - We want to strengthen the international activities of the Dutch Alliance members through the use of the highest quality standards. - We support the members of our network through joint training programmes for our international coordinators and through joint international projects. - For organisations from other countries the Dutch Alliance wants to be a first choice partner of the highest value. The achieved goals specific for this project we like to mention: - Insight in national policy in UK on Safeguarding and radicalism in VET. - Learn about the strategy of VET and the role of inspection. - Orientation on views regarding Safeguarding and radicalism and the link with Speaker policy, also the transition of the view on “Hot spots” towards “in general: being at risk of…” - Introduction to the policy, views, measures taken by examples of VET schools; be informed about the staff involved, the training of personnel and their experiences. - Learn about cooperation in local networks, like Prevention-team, college-police-officers and projects in the neighbourhood. - Introduction to Restorative Approach and the Restorative Lens as a best practice example of views and approach of Safeguarding and prevention. In total 39 participants took part in the study visits. These participants are staff from 7 VET colleges: Albeda College, ROC van Amsterdam, Deltion College, Rijn IJssel, ROC Leeuwenborgh, Wellant College and Onderwijsgroep Tilburg. In the annex we send the 3 reports of the study visits including the programmes, with the following parts: visits to the Association of Colleges, VET colleges: Hackney College, Barnet and Southgate College, Barking and Dagenham College, workshops expert Terence Bevington on Restorative Justice and Restorative Approach, expert speaker Assia Hussain and more. The study visit to Finland consisted of the following parts: visits to VET colleges: Salpaus and Jyväskylä Educational Consortium. As achieved results we especially like to mention: - More knowledge about safeguarding and the way it is implemented in the UK. - Specific tools on how to communicate with students who are “at risk”. - Participants organise workshops about safeguarding, radicalism and the specific tools they learned.
