Tastes Of Europe
Start date: May 3, 2010,

30 Youths from 5 different countries (Malta, Italy, Wales, Spain and Poland) met in Malta for seven days. The participants shared their local food traditions that are at risk of disappearing due to globalization, pressures of multinational companies and the fast way of life. By carrying out various sport sessions the youths were educated in an informal way towards a healthy lifestyle combining natural foods and a balanced diet together with open air activities. The participants also analysed what is being done to promote healthy eating in the EU and food quality. The youths visited a number of food producation and processing venues as well as prepared typical foods during daily workshops. This project is a follow up to another YIA project held in Italy, with the difference that this proposed project had a greater multicultural element as it involved more youths coming from different countries. The aim of the exchange project was to forge greater links between the young people of all the participating countries. Although everyone comes from different countries and cultures, we are all citizens of the wider European Union and we have an important role to play for the benefit of our future and future generations. The grant received was of € 27,516.00--One change that took place was the topic of the discussion presented by the Health Promotion Unit due to other appointments of the people concerned. The Health Promotion Unit held a presentation on Food and Hygiene instead of GMOs, an issue that is still related to the project's theme.Since all partners except for Italians left on Sunday and the cancellation of the speaker's attendance for Sunday morning, beach games were instead organised for the Italian and Maltese youths.
