Take the train against discrimination
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Dec 31, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

"The Frenchman drinks wine and eats stinky cheese, is arrogant and chauvinistic, the Polish is an ultracatholic heavy-drinker with an extreme dexterity for plumbing and the Spanish is a macho man prone to regular siestas and fiestas, so that nothing ever gets done. Of course it’s true, everybody says so! Do you want to talk about stereotypes, discrimination and racism in modern Europe while discovering the beauties of Slovak landscapes and delicacies of Belgian chocolates?" With our Belgian partner Coala, we had the idea of creating a double exchange, working on the topics of discrimination and stereotypes. We had already worked together in the past and organised exchanges worth remembering. The objective of our exchange is triple: 1°- discovering other cultures (through an international evening, the presentation of every country, through debates and games), going through received ideas (so called stereotypes) and helping each participant to forge his/her own opinion thanks to what he will have done and lived during the exchange. 2°- in the different partner countries to this project, there are different types of discrimination and different ways of living it. We intend to compare our varied realities and see what we can do as well at a local level as back home, how to butt in once back home. 3°- having fun, create lifetime long links (friendship) between people from different countries, cultures, background, religion, etc. as well as learning a lot through non-formal education. With a total of 25 participants coming from Slovakia, Bulgaria, Greece, Slovakia and Spain, through varied workshops (cooperative board games, music/songs/dance, street theatre and sport) and several non-formal activities, we intend for each of the participants to find his/her place in the project. Thanks to an active participation of each partner and each participant, we will realise a special afternoon in the parc of the town, bringing to people the results of our hard work and inviting them to share a game with us. As reference manuals for non-formal activities, we use compass, coyote, t-kits and domino. We intend to have a very good visibility for this project. We want to reach the participants in a first time, and then the local population in a second time. We hope that our impact on the local population will remain through actions that would continue in the future via the local organ Coala, our final result will be kind of a test to see if we can reproduce it in each of the partner countries.
