Project "TAKE A LEAD" is an opportunity for a young, 20-30 years old, person to take initiative to discover, experience and grow while meeting another one - a person with special needs-, while activities in local community and living in a different culture. This project is carried out by Spanish organization AFAIJ, which will send one person to Lithuania and VsI. Atelier of Treasures, where a volunteer will have his/her service for 10 months. The project will start in September 2016.The volunteer will be involved in daily activities of the hosting organization - assisting people with mental disability, taking part in the events of local community and in the city, helping organizing educational workshops in schools of local villages and towns, and summer camps. The volunteer will be encouraged to implement his/her ideas and initiatives, will learn Lithuanian language, will practice English skills, will share experience with other organizations and communities. Project is useful and valuable because the young person will learn how to help people with special needs and local community in an appropriate way. He/she will better understand such people and their needs, will learn to plan and implement different activities. This project aims to motivate young people to go for new experiences, to practice self-independence and to develop their openness towards other people and experience.For sending and hosting organizations as well as for local community participation in this project means possibility for positive inter-cultural experience, which will increase awareness, solidarity, tolerance of its members. The project will raise motivation for development, will train different skills, expand the horizons. It will be a unique possibility for hosting organization to develop its activities in the volunteering field.The volunteer will be invited to take part in EVS events, to share the experience of volunteering, to spread the idea of volunteering and to inspire other young people, especially local villagers, to become volunteers. So, the volunteers will have an opportunity to spend their time meaningfully while giving it to others. The volunteer will take part in different meetings and seminars on volunteering and non-formal education topic, as well as specifically on disability topic, where he/she will reflect on his/her experience, consolidate the results and will evaluate his/her achievements with the help of "Youthpass certificate".
