Take a chance
Start date: Feb 1, 2016, End date: Oct 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Project Take a chance originated as a response to discussions between young people concerning their needs and more active involvement. The idea of inactivity of young people nowadays comes mainly from the assumptions of lacking motivation, fear and a lack of knowledge. Informal group Cesta bez mapy works with youth using the methods of experiential-reflective learning and hexperiential pedagogy. As a part of its activities, the group realizes this project, whose main aim is to mobilize young people, lead them to take more responsibility, enable them to develop their key competences and know an international environment, which helps in building understanding and tolerance towards other cultures. It seeks to give young people the opportunity to experience something new, which would help them to step out of their comfort zone. The aim is to increase their initiative and flexibility in new and challenging situations. The participants of this project are young people and youth workers of our partner organizations, their total number is 20. The main activity of the project is a youth exchange, which gives the participants the knowledge about outdoor techniques and group mechanisms, it also enables practicing of the skills in a safe environment. The methods that we use are as follows: mini lectures, workshops, simulations, field training. What is important is the direct experience of the participants and its reflection afterwards. Those help to raise awareness about own motivation and functioning. The knowledge that the participants gain during the project builds the base for their further volunteering and youth work in their home organisations. Creating a knowledge database and its sharing provides further tools for youth work, their reflection and mutual sharing, which helps with creating partnerships and positive bonds. This leads to more effective practice in working with youth and their incorporation in the society through their personal or professional life. Stepping out of the comfort zone and experiencing new situations helps to step out of a stereotype and mobilize the youth, increases their flexibility and the ability to adapt to their environment and its changes. This creative learning process, when the participants are noto nly students, but also teachers, helps to increase self-consciousness and self-awareness.
