Taal en Spraaktechnologie leermethodes ter bevorde..
Taal en Spraaktechnologie leermethodes ter bevordering van Interculturele Dialoog.
This partnership, comprising establishments from five (future) Member States, aims toprovide a very specific response to the challenge of European linguistic and culturaldiversity and the aims of the European Council of Barcelona entitled “Mother tongue+2”. It aims to develop nine contrastive, interactive, innovative methods for learning fiveEuropean languages and cultures that are not well-covered among currently availableteaching materials. The language combinations are NL-SK, SK-NL, NL-RO, RO-NL, NLFR,FR-NL, FR-TR, TR-FR, TR-NL. These will be multimedia modules on CD-ROM, atCERL level A1-A2, and will be conceived as methods for learning languages throughculture and the promotion of intercultural skills. They are aimed at adults who wish tolearn the language for professional reasons (such as immigration), tourism, personal, family or study reasons, their own interest and also at professional language and cultureteachers. The modules will provide a high level of education and may be used in blended learning(self-learning (with individual e-tracking of results) combined with classroom sessions).A tutoring system will afford the possibility of online help and feedback by a tutor. The consortium attaches great importance to making teaching material available to asmany people as possible. The modules will be produced on a user-friendly platform, andwill be available on the Internet. A learning site will be prepared, but the modules couldalso be integrated into most existing LMS. By using the latest technologies such as TTS(Text-to-Speech), the modules will also be accessible to the visually challenged andpeople with learning difficulties, such as dyslexia sufferers.Motivation for potential learners of foreign languages will be stimulated by an attractivemultimedia environment, the great flexibility of the teaching material (individual selectionof content, catering to different learning styles, etc.), practical help (feedback, lexicon),an educational approach based on “interlingua”, i.e. highlighting and taking advantageof existing knowledge of languages (language structures and mechanisms) using acontrastive approach between the source and target language/culture. A wide-rangingpromotion and distribution campaign will be launched by all partners in the variouscountries from the outset of the project.
