The “Istituto Tecnico – Settore Tecnologico – Liceo Scientifico “E. Mattei” is located in the town of Vasto. It is the reference pole for scientific-technological education being attended by students coming from an area of a hundred thousand people.
The students are 957 and there are 145 staff members (teaching and non teaching).
The Institute is experiencing a constant and gradual internationalisation process arising from the need to train future professionals in the technological and scientific field who will also operate abroad in a highly competitive work environment.
Within this development framework it is crucial and necessary that teachers are trained at European level meeting the Institution’s needs. Thanks to such European training the following objectives are pursued:
- Development of quality and innovation of professional training and a positive impact on learners and the whole school community.
- increase employability of the school’s future graduate students within an international labour market by making them more aware of being European citizens and more able to face difficulties of adjustments to the standard required by international workplaces.
Considering the development trend of technological sectors toward an open market, the students attending the Institute, at the end of their studies , will have not only job opportunities but also inevitable contacts with European and international realities thanks to a preparation qualitatively competitive both from a technical-professional point of view and in terms of key competences and language skills gained.
Maintaining high levels of professionalism for students requires a continuous and growing investment of the Institute in the training of their teachers and, due to a cascading effect , of their learners.
Teachers need to strengthen specific areas of competence in order to get learning outcomes that they can use with their students and that can maintain the high quality level of the school educational offer.
Therefore, the European development plan designed by teaching staff provides to invest on the improvement of the following linguistic and methodological competences:
-1) C. L. I. L methodology which will allow teachers to develop communication skills in L2 in order to deliver C. L. I. L. lessons and produce educational tools for facilitating students’ learning.
-2) ICT for teaching: designed for teachers who want to acquire new skills and ideas for using technology to teach their subject .
-3) -Job shadowing/Study Visit: visiting schools in order to learn new methodologies of teaching.
These training activities and job shadowing will be organized by the partner abroad (English matter) who has a consolidated experience in the implementation of educational initiatives of high quality in the EU. English Matter provides a methodological approach/intercultural that ensures a positive impact on teachers who will participate in the training activities and, at the end of the experience, on the whole school community (e-twinning).
In order to achieve these goals it is foreseen the participation of 8 teachers with the following profile
-Technical subjects teachers with an intermediate level of English (B1) who want to learn new teaching methodologies using technology
-Subject Teachers who aim to teach their subjects using the English language . They already have an intermediary level of English(B1).
- English teachers who want to improve their teaching English methodology and be able to use more real life approaches in their classes
8 teachers with these features will be selected. Training and learning in general will develop participants’ skills and will allow them to learn and apply new methods of teaching and use new e-learning tools
It is envisaged that the beneficiary teachers, once back from their training mobility, pass on the acquired competences –learning outcomes- to the other colleagues on the basis of a Peer Education Plan that is designed and implemented by the teachers themselves. The plan provides for : 1) collecting all the materials produced and shared during the training; 2) producing a demonstration video tutorial (that can be uploaded to the e-twinning on line platform) 3) implementing workshop sessions designed for transferring the gained competences to the entire school community and also to teachers from other Italian and European schools.
