The project involves teaching specialized Italian language and the use of new technologies in teaching foreign languages. The school is equipped with computers and an interactive whiteboard which were not fully utilized. The objective of the project was not only to enhance the quality and attractiveness of teaching through the use of computers and the Internet, both in the classroom and during students’ own work at home but also to increase the effectiveness of teaching process, considering the needs of companies and individual students attending our courses. The project involves participation in two courses for teachers. The first one, organized by the University of Palermo, referred to the process of teaching foreign languages, focusing on academic and specialized Italian. The second training was devoted to the use of new technologies in teaching foreign languages, such as creating a blog, using a school chat room, making interactive presentations, acquiring and editing authentic resources available on the Internet, creating websites, avatars and language exercises and posting them on the Internet. Both courses were attended by the head teacher who is an Italian and English language teacher leading daily courses for both groups and individuals who use these languages in their professional lives. She is the only person available at school everyday and able to help other teachers who use a computer and an interactive whiteboard in the classroom. After the course the teacher led workshops for all school teachers on the use of new technologies and helps if technical problems arise while preparing materials for the lessons. Participation in the courses enabled enhancing the effectiveness of teaching specialized language, it also increased the attractiveness of the classes and motivation of individual students to work outside of school. In the longer perspective, the school plans to enrich its offer to meet expectations of adult students, and hopes to increase the number of learners studying the language for professional reasons, thanks to the high level of teaching.
