EVS A REALITY TO DISCOVER AND LEARN, is an European volunteering project of the municipality of La Baña (Galicia, Spain) as a local public body, associated with neighboring countries, such as Georgia. La Baña is a rural town with almost 4000 inhabitants, located 20 minutes far from the capital of Galicia, Santiago de Compostela. We wanted to offer an experience of informal learning, bilaterally, through the support of two volunteers in municipal services. The volunteers worked in the departments of Culture, Employment, Social Services and Education, as well as the Youth and Sports. The activities taking place in our town throughout the whole year are aimed at all ages: children, youth, adults and seniors. Young volunteers have been active within our organization, considering them as a part of our daily life. They have participated in cultural activities like Carnival, the Feast of the Filloa (pancakes), Magosto in summer camps, activities with schools etc. The duration of service has been a year since January 2015 to December 2015. The volunteers have been involved in the activities that took place in the municipality during their stay and bring new ideas to supplement their learning. At all times they have been supervised by the managers of each area or department and had the support of the tutor even before arrival. With the EVS project, A REALITY TO DISCOVER AND LEARN, a greater intercultural and European dimension in young people is promoted. EVS increases positive awareness of other cultures,it supports dialogue and intercultural encounters with other young people from different backgrounds and cultures. The aim of the service is to prevent and combat prejudice, racism and exclusionary attitudes.
