Rezekne (LV) and Kupiškis (LT) districts beingclose to Lithuanian-Latvian border suffer fromcommon problems, however rich naturaland cultural resources combined with crossbordercooperation can open opportunitiesfor tourism development and contribute toresolution of social-economic problems. The project develops water tourism servicesand infrastructure at Lubana lake in Rezekneand Kupiškis lagoon that are one of thebiggest lakes in their countries.The project increases the safety and betterservices at the lake beaches by installingnew infrastructure and obtaining lifeguardssaving equipment, promotes water sportsevents by organizing 2 international regattas,carries out the training courses and studytrips for tourism specialists, develops jointcross-border strategy for sustainable watertourism development, publishes jointwater tourism map. In the long term thesemeasures would result in the increasednumber of participants and spectators inwater tourism events and visitors to theregions.
