SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION AND CONSCIOUS INDIVIDUALS
Start date: Sep 1, 2015,
End date: Aug 31, 2017
PROJECT
FINISHED
This project’s idea is taken from the previous one called “The Principles of Modern Democracy and Individuals” and it was built according to current partners and their needs in school environment. We are six schools from UK, HU, GR, RO, PL and TR with students aged 6-15. Our project is student centered with teachers acting as mediators and facilitators. The focus of the project is the international crew of the imaginary spaceship Illuminator that landed onto the habitable planet called FuturEU after a 500-year-long quest for a planet to start new civilization. They are expected to deal with the problems to be solved include key themes of sustainable development
We will do five exchange of pupils in two years in different countries of partners and every subtopic of the exchange will be different. The students who deserve to join in these exchange will study with their peers of the partner schools and they will plan, organize develop life on FuturEU because they are not to return to Earth for generations. This job will have to be done applying the principles of modern democracy with all eligible crew members participating equally—either directly or through elected representatives — in the proposal, development, and creation of laws.
Subtopics are; UK- “ The FuturEU” HU- "Healthy Living / Food / Sports" GR - "Employment" - "Economy" RO- " Environment / Climate change/ Environmental protection" Pl- "Innovation" TR – “ Education ”
The students will be confronted with a number of problems and will have to solve them together with partners through discussion and debate. Teachers will prepare lesson plans for each topic as an introduction. They will go through each problem individually and then through collaborative learning. The teachers will facilitate learning by supporting, guiding, and monitoring the learning process at the same time encouraging the students and stretching their understanding.
We are expecting to overcome the lack of knowledge of other countries in EU especially the peripheral ones, intolerance to cultural differences, isolation and lack of possibilities of traveling and communication with other countries in Europe, lack of exposure to ICT and computer tools, lack of opportunities to practice English as a foreign language with native speakers for native English speakers, that pupils' creative thinking and artistic skills are limited to what they encounter at the local level.
