Support to Caeni/IRI/USP to integrate EU issues into research & training for Brazilian civil servants & civil society

Brazil-Caeni-EU (Brazil-C-EU): 3yr project to support for the Center for the Study of International Negotiations (Caeni) to integrate EU issues into research support & training of civil servants & civil society in Brazilian international negotiations. [Caeni: an offical NAP (Brazilian Center for Research Support) in the Institute of International Relations (IRI), University of Sao Paulo (USP)]. The project has 3 axes: (1) new Caeni support & training on EU issues in international negotiations for Brazilian public administration/civil servants, and sole such training in Latin America. (2) meet demand from civil soceiety for Caeni support & trainings on EU issues in international negotiations. (3) incorporate Brazil-EU relations into Caeni’s multidisciplinary research (research project of Dr. Inglis, sole English native speaker in Caeni) on Brazil’s South/South relations. Project Design: Academic Co-ordinator, Prof. Oliveira, supported in co-ordination by Prof. Inglis. Actions in the 3 axes include multiplier & dissemination actions to guarantee Brazil-C-EU’s sustainability, build on CAENI/IRI/USP’s network and research leadership in South-South co-operation and MERCOSUR. Results: high quality capacity building for Brazilian public administration and civil society, fostering Brazil-EU research generally and increasing impact by combination of networking/events/social media/leading publications. Specific actions: i-150% more Caeni training on Brazil-EU-MERCOSUR issues; ii-support hub to network all activities; iii-co-ordinate and foster analysis/vision on Brazil/EU relations within Caeni; iv-integrate EU issues into Caeni research focus special editions of the Brazilian Political Science Review, editor: Prof. Onuki, monthly Jean Monnet Supplement to Caeni Newsletter. v-key events to encourage outreach, add value to dissemination: eg. annual alumni events and multi-disciplinary USP/Brazil researcher conference on Brazil/EU relations.
