The present European child welfare services cannot adequately respond to growing needs because of their outdated knowledge; the skills of the professionals need to be updated and this project has been launched to design the needed supplementary training. It will consist of the following phases: a partners’ common view on children’s substitute care services and their quality will be defined; a comparative report on the initial situation in each participating country will be drawn; a curriculum will be compiled for the supplementary training of the staff in children’s substitute care, with a teaching implementation plan and a material package in each partner country’s language. The supplementary training programme will be made available on the internet.
