Strengthening and harmonisation of crossborder economic and trading cooperations in the Szatmár region (ECOCOOP-SZATMAR)
Start date: Feb 29, 2012, End date: May 30, 2013 PROJECT  FINISHED

Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg and Satu-Mare counties were in close economic interrelation until the beginning of the 20th century, but this efficient trade system has lost its intensity by today. Enterprises and inhabitants of the area express a strong demand for the re-organisation of cross-border trade relations. Thus, the aim of the project is to enhance economic cooperation in Szatmar region in order to develop trade relations. In the frame of the project, a joint economic and business situation analysis is elaborated, the results of which mark the main topics for the business meetings and define those fields in which cooperation should be fostered. Based on the business meetings, a group of entrepreneurs is formed that is interested in cooperation. The results of the situation analysis and the business meetings provide input for a commerce development plan that will define a framework for the deepening of cooperation, based on which a trade network can be formed. The current project is closely connected to the winning project aiming to set up the grocery market of Csengersima (PP2). The activities of the two projects complete and support each other. The general objective of the project is improving the economic and social situation of Szatmár region. The target group of the project consists of the enterprises of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Satu-Mare counties concentrated in any sector. Owing to the high proportion of the self-employed the number of the target group members is approximately 50.000. The local entrepreneurs face many difficulties entering foreign markets. The main issues that can jeopardize the economic cooperation are language, organizational and administrative problems. The entrepreneurs involved in the project receive support to form cooperation and to enter new - in this case cross-border - markets. Furthermore, the elaborated territorial commerce development plan can develop a cross-border commerce network, which can react to the needs of the local entrepreneurs. Moreover, by assisting the realization the enterprises can save valuable resources. Several local initiatives have started in the region in the last years (for instance the "Local Market" initiative in the village Panyola) but none of them are able to cross the borders. With efficient coordination it is possible to enlarge these initiatives aiming to consume local goods across the border.
