In view of low numbers of VET students, worker aging and emigration, labour reproduction is of utmost importance in many VET fields in general and in Mechanical Engineering and Metalworking Industries in particular. The data by Latvian and Lithuanian authorities shows that the replacement of labour force in the industry is a crucial issue which needs targeted and urgent intervention. Therefore, the industry employers' representatives - the Association of Mechanical Engineering and Metalworking Industries of Latvia (MASOC) and Lietuvos inzinerines pramones asociacija LINPRA and the experienced education institution NORDBILDUNG from Germany have come together to implement the project Strategic VET development in Mechanical Engineering and Metalworking Industries in order to improve the situation in the industry with the help a variety of activities in collaboration with VET school teachers and employers' representatives to respond to industry needs. Thus, the main aim of the project is to improve the VET system in the Mechanical Engineering and Metalworking Industry occupations in Latvia and Lithuania by taking over knowledge, experience and know-how of the German partner. A more specific aim is to strengthen the professional choice of the learners of vocational and technical schools into the industry occupations (e.g., welders, turners, millers, locksmiths, mechatronics specialists, CNC operators, electricians). The main activities and underlying results are as follows: 1) To develop a Strategy and the Action Plan of VET system development in the industry occupations 2) To adopt teaching methodology from Germany on the InfoMobil 3) To train 4 trainers from Latvia and 4 from Lithuania on working on the InfoMobil 4) To adapt and develop teaching and information materials to be used on the InfoMobil in Latvia and Lithuania 5) To adapt and develop databases about industry enterprises in Latvia and Lithuania 6) To develop and adopt CLIL methodology, lesson plan, materials in Latvia 7) 400 VET students attended InfoMobil classes in Latvia and Lithuania 8) 100 VET teachers and trainers educated in Latvia and Lithuania 9) 40 administrative staff educated in Latvia and Lithuania 10) 100 employers' representatives informed in Latvia and Lithuania 11) 2 multipliers events held 12) information about project outputs disseminated to the partners' network organisations, VET school teachers. The methodology in the project is based on the German partner's NORBILDUNG long-term experience on using the InfoMobil for teaching/training activities for the VET junior year students. First, the German partner will transfer the knowledge an know-how to the Latvian and Lithuanian partners, then the Latvian and Lithuanian partners will adopt the German experience and build their own system of using the InfoMobil. The adoption process will be guided and monitored by the German partner. For successful development of VET system in the field of Mechanical Engineering and Metalworking Industries, a Strategy and an Action Plan will be elaborated in collaboration with all the partners. Locally and regionally, each partner will have had a valuable cooperation experience that will be shared to the local and regional stakeholders, thus promoting such cooperations. Nationally, the developed outputs will improve the VET situations in the Mechanical Engineering and Metalworking Industries in the partner countries, as all the partners will have better understanding of what is going on in the field in each country, while VET students will be interested in their chosen occupations and motivated to graduate, teachers, administrative staff, as well as employers will have obtained a new tool for motivating VET 1st and 2nd year students of learning, graduating and subsequently working in their chosen occupations in the field, thus ensuring industry demand for labour force. On European and possibly also on international levels the practical exchange of experience and know-how that will lead to improved situation in the VET field and later on in the industry and will also affect the European and international markets by improved quality of motivated professionals in the field who will replace the aging labour force and produce high quality products in the future. This can be regarded as a potential long term benefit as well.
