STRANA EVS IDEA
Start date: Jul 5, 2014, End date: Nov 5, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Stranaidea works in Turin and in some neighboring municipalities in the social and educational areas proposing different succesful projects. It is a solid organization with 120 social workers, employees and technical staff. We started to work on European Programmes in 2000, with EVS in 2007 . The main objective of this project was to host 6 volunteers with a different profile and coming from Spain, Portugal, Estonia, Poland and Greece who were willing to engage themselves for 12 months to support us in the daily implementation of our activities with a different type of users working actively and enthusiastically in their implementation being able to make a diversified experience within the various services we manage. The v. could experiment themselves in more than one service, enriching them with their personal characteristics, their culture, their styles and supporting them with their skills and competences to carry out the proposed activities. They could improve or discover their skills in the social sector, they made a learning experience both personal and, those who wanted, even professional and enriched Stranaidea for the intercultural perspective and gave their added value to the project and the centers that hosted them. Under the professional perspective they made us to face new situations and to find new type of intervention on individuals, on the group and as a consequence on the project. They have lived an intensive group experience learning to share a flat, to make comparisons, to challenge their ability to adapt, their understanding of individual differences as well as cultural ones, their concept of rmutual tolerance. The group well integrated itself in Turin being satisfied with the various cultural and leisure opportunities it offers. The service that hosted volunteers were: 1) YOUTH POLICIES-Social and Community Theatre: the aim of the project was to host 1 volunteer that has been involved in the theatrical workshops proposed to the disable people of Stranaidea services, to others out of it, to secondary high school students, to adults with difficulties like homeless hosted in one of our dormitory and in projects on Community Theatre proposed on the local territory. She supported the theatrical activity also with her theorical and practical experience on the theatrical domain. The territory where we hold this activity was that of Turin and some surrounding municipalities. 2) INFANT AREA : we hosted 2 volunteers (with a part-time timetable shared with the disability area) who collaborated actively to the motricity, socialising and creative activities through workshops on music, rythm, singing, paiting, reading, foreign languages, etc., taking care of babies, observing their characteristics and their improvements about their growth. The activity was hold at Cirié, a little city out of Turin. 3) DISABILITY AREA: the goal of the project was to host different volunteers in the different centers for disabled. They were expected to help educators with their presence, participation and creativity to offer more opportunities for fun and well-being to our users participating to all the activities proposed. Our different centers for disable people are placed in Turin, in various areas of the city, central and suburban in the north and the south of it. All the volunteers have supported the services, in a different way and with different times, with their ideas, abilities, competences and enthusiasm, enriching the programme of the services with some new workshops that could make them develop their competences, give new imputs to the users and in general to facilitate the development of social abilities and of autonomies of the users in a perspective of a social inclusion. Volunteers could in this way observe, know, learn and develop general knowledges and practical aspects on the various type of users and on the educative methodologies and way to manage the services. The overall objectives of the project have been achieved with each volunteer in a different way. They related the knowledge of the social cooperation and caring, sharing of relational and educational experience, the integration of the volunteer with the target group and with the staffs; theoretical but mainly practical knowledges to understand the abilities of the users and the characteristics of each service; the personal contribution to support the development of the users' abilities, an active participation to the activities . Volunteers were involved in the activities in an active and inclusive way, where to do and to make was crucial. They were stimulated to reflect individually and making mutual comparison throughout the project on various issues, supported and monitored in projecting and carrying out their personal project about their individual growth within the EVS project.
