Storyborders
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The idea of the project “Storyborders” rises from the wish to realize a training course aimed to provide youth workers with innovative and original methods to narrate their own reality, their social identity context and potentialities, becoming themselves driving forces of change. The main idea is that the participants will learn to act in their own contexts using investigation and narrative tools throughout graphic journalism and media, in order to produce results in the information dissemination, competences development, empowerment, innovation and original contributes. The training of participants will include activities held by trainees expert in the field of non formal education, journalism and comic strips. The peculiarity of this project consists of involving 14 youth workers from 5 countries (Italy, Spain, France, Morocco, and Tunisia), in order to train them in the field of journalism, informational comic strips, and realization of their own investigation piece. Two organizations located in the Maghreb area will participate to the project, as they directly feel the need to trigger positive dialogue processes and participative democracy; they are actively engaged in youth education in order to remove radicalization and open up their intercultural horizon. The european partners involved in the project (from Italy, Spain and France) wish to train their youth workers in order to start the same positive and inclusive dynamics in their work contexts, taking advantage of constructive dialogue and tools experimented during the training. The participants will be guided in the elaboration of a personal storyboard: starting form the first steps of investigation of the surrounding reality to choosing the right technical tools to realize it, with the support of professional trainers. One objective is to allow the participants to realize a final product that can be repeated in their contexts of origin: from one side realizing practical experimentation sessions about innovative narrative languages (comics, graphic journalism, participative documentary, graphic novel and bottom-up productions) also throughout ICT, from the other side questioning about the surrounding political and social reality in an aware and critical attitude, with in-depth analysis and dialogue activities. Everything will be structured in the non formal education and recognition of competences acquired context. The aim is to allow the participants to use digital and other resources to critically investigate the opportunities and difficulties they could meet working in group fields where diversity can be a fertile resource or a critical point difficult to handle. In these contexts the youth worker needs support and alternative tools in order to elaborate new solutions and new projects that rise from their experience and positively impact on the community.
