STIMULATING SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COMPETENCES THROUGH INNOVATIVE MEANS FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING
Start date: Nov 1, 2011,

Today, when EU economies are facing a continuous transition to a more technology intensive model, key competences in science and technology (S&T) are essential to develop the economic and social model of the future. However, according to several EU studies , the scientific vocation among the young students is increasingly low. To overcome this situation, STIMULA aims to find innovative methodologies to foster S&T vocation among EU young students using as a strategy the active involvement of the world of work (universities, research and innovation centres and companies) in educational activities. The core of the project will focus on designing, implementing and validating new educational initiatives that will generate different outputs and results: - “Pedagogical S&T Guideline for Teacher Training” where innovative ways to approach more motivating S&T teaching will be provided.- “Guideline for bringing S&T closer to Teachers” will provide future and current teachers methodologies to bring the S&T world to them and thus to their students.- “S&T Cooperation Guideline for schools” will focus on drawing initiatives and activities for schools to strengthen their relationships with the world of work. - Diverse curriculum extending initiatives, aimed at fostering student’s S&T vocation and their entrepreneurial spirit. These project results are expected to contribute to: i) Students receiving a more practical and motivating education on S&Tii) Teachers implementing better strategies to foster motivation towards S&T studiesiii) The gap between schools and the world of work will be bridged through networking models established between them, The final consequence of this achievements being the improvement in the acquisition of the key competences in S&T by the students, contributing to their personal development and employment.
