Summary of the Project
Being the only Language Secondary school in Sofia region, we have long-time traditions in foreign language teaching, as well as content-integrated language teaching. European Development Plan of our organization suggests maximizing our teachers’ potential as an important prerequisite for the prosperity of our school. Therefore, the participation of 10 of our teachers in European teacher-training courses, provided by training institutions of proven quality, is a step in the direction of developing teachers’ capacity.
The objectives we set ourselves cover several aspects of education:
- enhancement of participants’ linguistic competence;
- acquisition and implementation of innovative methods of teaching;
- European dimension of educational standards;
- integration of ICT in the process of teaching and learning;
- improvement of teachers’ and students ’motivation;
- improvement of managerial competences ;
- enhancement of school’s public image.
The project started with registration in the European Portal ECAS. Then at a school meeting the staff elected the commission in charge of the application process. The commission issued application forms to be completed by candidates. After a thorough research, applicants were offered lists of training courses to choose from. The selection of candidates was carried out on the basis of analyses of the applications, according to the School European Development Plan and the previously announced criteria. The project team chose partner organizations among the most renown teacher-training course-providers in Europe - International Study Programmes, Executive Training Institute, College International de Canne . They all have an excellent reputation for organizing qualification courses in UK, Malta and France. Our school has successfully co-operated with some of them in the recent years. The project members contacted their respective partners and sent in pre-registration forms to ensure participation on the courses.
After our project is approved, we plan to communicate with the receiving organizations via e-mail and phone. The school intends to organize language training for members who teach subjects in English and French, as preparation for the mobility. The implementation of the course will cover one year, including dissemination. During this period, training mobilities in the UK, Malta and France will take place.
As the above mentioned activities indicate, we are using a wide variety of methods : research, planning, surveys ,discussions, analysis, summarizing, selection, mobilities of staff, dissemination of knowledge and skills, training.
Altogether, nine people will take part in the project implementation: three teachers of English, two teachers of French, one Maths teacher, one Chemistry teacher, one ICT specialist, one Philosophy teacher and the Principal of the school .
All members are willing to enhance their methodology competences and continue their professional development. Hence, one of the leading topics is acquiring new methods, aiming at boosting students’ motivation and enhancing the quality of education in the respective languages and subjects.
After each of the trainings we envisage dissemination through open-door lessons and workshops for teachers of our school and the region. In order to popularize our experience and competences outside our school community we plan meetings with parents and local government representatives, in which we are going to provide them with the information about our project and our new ideas and hold discussions. We also envisage reports for the local media, as well as for the school website and Facebook group.
Regarding dissemination of the results on national and European level we are going to use Erasmus+ dissemination platform and E-twinning platform alike. We are going to participate in discussions and forums of specialist teaching communities. For the purpose of dissemination we are going to use audio-visual platforms like YouTube and Flickr.
We are positive that the successful implementation of the project will reach its objectives. This will benefit the participants, the students and the school in general. The improvement of teachers’ linguistic, methodological , technological, managerial, social and cultural competences will lead to more effective education. The students will improve their motivation and have better chances for successful realization on national and European level. We see the long-term benefits in terms of making our school more attractive for students and well-respected on regional and international scale.
