PROJECT
FINISHED
We wish to host 2 volunteers to work as part of our team delivering supports and services to young people aged 7 upwards. If possible we hope to have volunteers from different countries and of different genders. Our organisation was founded in 1967 and has been working with young people in our community ever since. Our team consists of a mixture of staff and volunteers and we have been actively participating in the Youth in Action (Youth Mobility) since 2004.
The main objectives of our project is to provide a valuable experience for the volunteers and to expose our target group to the Youth Mobility programme with the aim of encouraging them to consider being part of the whole Youth Mobility later in their lives.
Over the years we have gained a huge amount of experience working with the programme so that now we have streamlined the process to suit our requirements. We try to have volunteers from different countries each year and with that aim we tend to target potential volunteers before engaging with partner agencies. We conduct face to face interviews with potential volunteers using Skype before we select any candidates. We then engage with the relative sending agencies to progress the project and at the same time ensuring that all the needs of the volunteer are adequately catered for.
Immediate impact of the project is the exposure of the current target group to other cultures and the same applies to the volunteers. Longer term impacts include fostering in our own target group the idea of taking part in a similar project later in their lives. There are also long term benefits for the volunteers. In the past volunteers have completely changed their life choices having had the experience of working with young people in the Centre.
