The participant in SELF will be selected from among the students in the last two years of school of the Istituto Professionale per l’Enogastronomia e l’Ospitalità Alberghiera “Costaggini” in Rieti.
A relevant number of our students require a tutor for disadvantages of a cultural, socio-economic or cognitive nature, some being immigrants, or students with special needs often at risk of school failure and dropout. For these students the motivational element represented by practical work experience in a different cultural context can give added value to their school training, which is then developed into a more effective, interesting and attractive experience. The participation in a period of transnational mobility will allow them to verify the effectiveness of their specific competences and will strengthen their self-esteem through the consciousness of their know-how and personal learning skill. It will also give them the means to fight social exclusion and have a wider range of employment opportunities, helping them to make the right professional choices.
The participant will have a three-week work experience placement abroad, sustained by constant monitoring and tutorial assistance. The mobilities will be implemented after a preparatory course both in foreign languages and in social and pedagogical issues and the preparation will continue in the host country. All the activities will be carried out in accordance with the European Quality Commitment.
The trainees will further their knowledge according to their specialization: typical ingredients and recipes of the host countries, service and sale tourist reception. During the placements they will gather materials and document their experiences , and by the end of their experience they will write a detailed report: the whole work will be then shared with all the other students of the school and in the wider dissemination stage. Hosting countries include Hungary, Finland, France and Spain.
The groups will be divided into 2 rounds leaving on different dates for a total of 26 participants. The training will take place in the interval Autumn 2016- Autumn 2017. The project has been designed according to a well-defined work plan to meet the participants needs and the general goals set. Expected outcomes include a range of skills/knowledge meeting the professional needs of our students:
- widen one’s vocational training on-the- job
- learn entrepreneurial attitude and develop creative thinking
- develop language and intercultural learning
- develop self-education
Each partner has a specific role to ensure every participant has a quality mobility experience in terms of professional goals. The expected learning outcome is the improvement of level 2 (by the end of the 3rd year) and 3 (by the end of 4th year) of the EQF.
Students are also expected to enhance specific knowledge related to the chosen sector:
- typical ingredients and preparations from the host countries
- preparation methods, services and sale techniques
- wine and food pairing, wine production techniques
- incoming tourism techniques
Other objectives:
- Making communication more effective both in the mother tongue and in the foreign languages
- Foster personal and cultural development of participants
- Provide more professional opportunities to encourage employment and active citizenship
- Encourage the exchange of ideas and better knowledge of other cultures in order to promote social cohesion
During the internship participants will have to collect materials and document evidence of their experience.
At the end of the work placement they will share their experience with their fellows students in order to enable dissemination of results.
On completion of the work placement, each participant will receive a Certification stating the acquired competences.
Much care has been devoted to the impact on personal growth, language and intercultural learning, development of active citizenship, development of participants skills in personal learning and thinking, creativity, enterprise as well as increasing tolerance whilst strengthening international ties.
