PROJECT
FINISHED
Project “Sporting for dialogue” is an idea of the Youth of People’s Party. This society aims at the growth of the youth’s interest in and awareness of public affairs, especially in politics. It also aims at educating the increasing competence on the field of politics, whether in general terms (etiquette, communication and presentation skills, PR) or in specific terms (seminars, conferences on particular specialized topics). The Youth of People’s Party target their activities at young people between 15 and 35 years of age. Therefore, the project logically connects to this function of ours, which it further develops. It is inspired by what the first Czech President, Tomas Garrigue Masaryk had said: “Democracy we have, now we’d need some democrats, too.” We consider it as important for our democracy to have sufficient numbers of active democrats and a strong civic society. Combining sport, discussion and education in this project, we wish to make involvement in the life of society more attractive, and also to interest those youth who have been standing “apart” of it, so that they adopt active civic participation. Erasmus+ creates a good opportunity to attain this goal, as well as a new challenge we wish to accept.
The general goal of the project is to encourage young people to actively join public life. We wish to prove in practice that the rout to solve local, regional, country or even European problems does not lead through curses and resignation, but rather through active approach and discussion with people of decision-making authorities. Through this project, we wish to spark such discussion of the youth with people of decision-making authority in a very innovative and non-traditional way: they will first play sports together and engage in a dialogue afterwards. We expect a more direct and open discussion. Through the project, we also wish to fuel the development of key competences needed in maintaining quality dialogue (presentational and communicational skills, etiquette, PR).
The project is prepared for 155 people. We plan to organize 2 weekend events and one long, summer event for a larger number of participants. The organizers will be mainly members of the Youth of People’s Party. The participants will be young people, both from the Youth of People’s Party (or other youth organizations), and especially young people we wish to invite, who have not thought of the idea or to whom it has not occurred that public involvement can be something they could attempt. The age of of the participants will be between 15 and 30 years; the estimated average age will be 24, years. We especially expect participation of university students.
The primary activities will be divided into three parts. To start with, an event of (collective) sport should lead to the mutual introduction of participants, development of mutual relationships and an the creation of lively atmosphere. We wish that some relationships arise between the participants and the persons of authority so that they become familiar with one another on a human, peer-to-peer level. The sport activity is expected to bring about an environment stimulating fruitful discussion, which is the central point of the second main activity. Through this innovative approach, we wish to achieve a discussion based on real, mutually interesting dialogue. The aim of the project is not to have the participants merely listening to lectures, but rather to offer a ground where they may influence matters for the better and turn their good ideas and thoughts into reality. This common ground should also be beneficial to the decision-makers who will have an opportunity to gain new, unorthodox stimuli for their work. Last kind of activity at the event will be educational. The exact set-up of the program will be influenced by the participants themselves and it will be connected with competences which are useful in leading a dialogue.
The accompanying activities will also have substantial influence on those involved in the project. The project team is going to gain experience through the preparation of a project application, as well as through actually conductiong the project. The PR team is going to experience the way PR is maintained thorugh e.g. video or promotional work. These effects may be secondary, but of great importance, as they may improve the participants’ competences on various fields, which they in turn may offer on the labour market.
The project is entirely in the hands of young people. It has been devised, prepared and will be effected by the youth for the youth. We wish to found the project on an innovative methodology – the participants the participants will do sport together, they will educate themselves practically in competences of good dialogue leading and they will especially lead a dialogue with the decision-making officials. This new methodical approach aims at addressing those youth who might not attend a mere discussion with the decision-making authorities.
