Sport at school
Start date: Jan 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The strategic goal of Karate - Sport at School project is to promote in primary schools motor activities to tackle children sedentary lifestyle and hypokinesia through an innovative approach based on recent neurosciences researches, transfer good practice and the creation of a network among National Karate Federation of Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Portugal and Spain. The FIJLKAM project “Movi-mente” would be the first good practice to be transferred among partners. Two working groups of experts appointed by project partners will analyse and compare national contexts to better transfer the project, then staff will be trained to perform motor activities in schools and evaluation tools would be design in order to collect comparable data.Based on the idea of “Motor Intelligence” (Gardner, H.), motor activities are proposed in “enriched environment” and design to stimulate “executive functions” of children, that are the cognitive functions that serve to maintain an appropriate problem-solving set to attain a future goal (Welsh & Pennington, 1988) and encompass cognitive domains that are highly relevant for daily life activities, appropriate behaviour, and academic and social function.Expected results are an improvement in children motor abilities, learning abilities and social behaviour; strengthening of cooperation between schools and sport clubs and among National Federation to promote sport for all and offer high quality programs.
