Speak up!
Start date: Aug 1, 2015, End date: Jul 1, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project “Speak up!” was a bilateral European Voluntary Service project between sending and coordinating organization from Poland and hosting organization from Jordan. The objectives of the project were: • To enhance youth mobility by providing European Voluntary Service in another country; • To encourage intercultural dialogue between youth from Europe and Middle East; • To develop cooperation between organizations from Middle East and Europe; • To develop youth and children creative thinking and English language skills. During the project, WE Center in Jordan hosted three volunteers from Poland: two for six months period – from September and October 2015 until February/March 2016 and one for two months from September until November 2015. Volunteers worked in Palestinian refugee camps near Jerash and in Sahab. The volunteers conducted free-time activities for youth with special focus on women, promoted active citizenship and the idea of youth participation and encouraged local youth to participate in the European Projects. The project also had a positive impact on volunteers, who gained intercultural flexibility, as well as strengthened the cooperation between NGO's in Poland and Jordan, leaving a positive impact on potential further cooperation in the future. Refugee camps and Sahab are very conservative and are not exposed to Western culture therefore the daily activities of the volunteers encouraged intercultural dialogue in local community. The project promoted healthy lifestyle and encouraged young people’s interests in other cultures and allowed them to develop their skills in English and Arab. Volunteers organised Erasmus+ promotional activities and informed local youth about how to take part in mobility activities. Volunteers also promoted voluntary work as a tool to develop personal and professional skills. The project resulted in more open and diverse environment in the local communities in Jordan, served to create bridges between different cultures, helped to confront harmful stereotypes and strengthened the cooperation between organisations from Europe and Middle East.
