PROJECT
FINISHED
This project results from the development plan of the Adult Education Institution Dante. Besides teaching foreign languages, which currently represents our basic activity, our long-term development plan includes the development of the institution Dante into a life-long learning and professional development centre, which may be achieved in the planned period of time only by participating in international project and establishing and maintaining contacts with foreign partners. Starting from the institution’s development plan and considering the realization of the objectives set for the period from 2014 until 2019, the institution’s management estimated that there is a need for additional investment into the development of human potential, which is necessary for a successful organization and realization of international cooperation. During the realization of past projects, we noticed the need for fluency in the English language as means of international communication, especially by the headmaster and professional head of the institution. The project activities planned here represent a preparatory stage for the realization of the institution’s strategic plan, in which it is necessary to raise the level of employees’ competence and prepare them for creating and realizing new international project, but also new educational programmes and courses for citizens in general, and certain target groups in particular. Experience and knowledge gained during the implementation of project activities will serve as essential tools for the development of new international projects, as well as possible ideas and guidelines for expanding the educational offer of the Adult Educational Institution Dante. It is expected that the participants will purposefully and continuously develop and upgrade their key competences: the competence of communicating in a foreign language and intercultural competence, and that indirectly they will be able to assess the educational needs of the market, to suggest and develop various formal and informal educational programmes, to evaluate and direct their own work and the work of their co-experts abroad, as well as to carry out activities which combine more areas. As foreign language is more intensively and integrally learned in authentic surroundings, we believe that learning the language in an English-speaking country would enable the development of communication competence in a short period of time. We also regard the familiarization with the culture and civilisation, as well as customs, views and values of the English-speaking countries as extremely valuable. Considering that our institutions primarily deals with the content and programmes of learning foreign languages, we are convinced that foreign language learning programme in an institution abroad with a long and successful tradition represents an opportunity for a constructive comparative analysis, but also a model for future development of our own equivalent programmes here in Croatia. The project activities are planned within a period of one year. The project will include two employees of the Adult Education Institution Dante, both of whom are members of the Department of International Cooperation and EU Programmes. One participant is the professional head of the institution and a member of the Board, and the other is the institution’s headmaster. The headmaster has a long experience in managerial, organizational and marketing activities, while he professional head is a teacher of a foreign language with ample experience in adult education. Besides the primary activity, both participants deal with organizing and realizing professional education on various levels, as well as organizing and realizing international projects. Project activities encompass a three-week course of the English language in a selected institution in England, exchange of experiences with co-experts from the same institution, constructive communication and mutual consulting, evaluation, reflection and implementation of new insights and skills into the work of the Adult Education Institution Dante. Before starting the mobility, the participants actively took part in a two-year course of the English language. It is expected that the employees of the institution included in the project will develop professionally and gain knowledge, skills and views important for the development and upgrade of communication competence in a foreign language, as well as intercultural competence. They will become more competent lecturers, heads and participants in international projects.By cherishing contacts with project partners and meeting new associates and colleagues in other European countries, our institution will present to the partners its current activity and professional development plans for teachers, its city, region and country, as well as strengthen its own European dimension of acting and existing.
