PROJECT
FINISHED
The project „Message on the Wall” brings a 20-year-old French guy as an EVS volunteer to Tartu youth centre Lille Maja. Volunteer is a self-taught graffiti-artist. The project takes place between 01.08-2015-01.11.2016.
In the open youth room of Lille Maja he associates, talks and plays with kids and elder youth; arranges activities for them. He arranges weekly two activities for kids and young people:
1) graffiti club;
2) cooking club.
Also he will teach weekly French language and introduce French culture to everybody interested. As a big project volunteer in co-operation with the kids and young people of Tartu will create a graffiti-piece on the wall of Lille Maja. Volunteer cooperates with youth workers in involving the youth and other volunteers into activities as well as into the preparing acitivities, events and advertising.
Generally he will introduce graffiti culture and will encourage kids/ young people to find out, which is behind the „messages on the wall”. There are a lot of subcultures around us, we know nothing about. (Actually Tartu is one of graffiti-metropols in the world. Every spring a street art festival Stencibility is held here and well-known graffiti-artists come here to create here their knew works.)
Through his actions volunteer help kids/ young people to discover Tartu, our home place form another point of view. He encourages interaction between different (sub)cultures and encourages kids/ young people to form and express their opinion and think critically.
Project „Message on the Wall” encourages kids and young people to discover, care for and take actions.
As youth workers we support EVS volunteer and learn from his approach.
