Within the scope of the Interreg IIA- programme, the project Arkipelag hadalready been completed during 1998-2000, and made the archipelago well-known amongRussian travelagents and consumers. As a result of the experiences from the Arkipelag project, the follow- up projectSokrovisha Arhipelaga, marketing in Russia of charter trips produced in Åland and theÅbo archipelago was started. The aim of the project was to create specially planned touristproducts for the Russian market which included various programme alternatives andactivities. Special attention was paid to fishing tours and the archipelagos cabins. The aimof the project was to markedly increase the number of overnight travellers in the archipelago. The project especially targeted small groups and families that want custom madeprogrammes in the archipelago or companies and societies which arrange conferences, seminars and incentive trips.
