The SMILE (Soft Mobility Integrated Learning in English) project aims to promote the use of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in primary schools through the adoption of innovative teaching approaches and non-formal education practices, as well as to support problem-based learning, by developing a teaching methodology aiming to promote active citizenship and raise awareness among pupils on sustainable mobility issues in urban environments.
Through the sharing of best practices at European level and cooperation among partners from five different European countries (Italy, Macedonia, Belgium, Greece and Lithuania) and the support of local primary schools, an innovative didactic method will be developed, tested and improved starting from the experience of “English Kitchen”, a successful teaching format implemented in Italian schools since 2014 by ReBike ALTERmobility, an association promoting sustainable mobility and active citizenship in urban environments.
The main product of the project is the SMILE toolkit, including a teaching handbook and learning materials to support the implementation of SMILE learning activities, jointly designed and produced by partners. The project will also put the basis for the establishment of a European network of schools and civil society organizations willing to promote the adoption of CLIL methodology and sustainanility issues among the youngest generations.
